Nancye Sullivan

Nancye Sullivan was the daughter of Harold Maddison, who bought the hut from Bill in 1955. Bill retired to Point Lookout on Stradbroke Island, and the two continued to correspond for several years. (Bill died in 1959.) Maddison was interested in employing hydraulic sluicing to try to find gold around the hut and at Golden Point. He discussed his plans with Bill in considerable detail. Bill had had no experience with hydraulic sluicing, but knew enough about the local gold deposits to suggest that Harold was unlikely to have a great deal of success. Nevertheless, he was interested, and encouraging. The hoses, nozzles and other attachments that you see at the hut today are a legacy of Harold’s time at the hut, not Bill’s. Harold Maddison died in 1972.
